Off on her next adventure (Riley Bauman)
Sarah, How devastating it was for me to hear of your passing… Having spent countless hours together in our shared garden singing with the frogs and eating tomatoes and blueberries until we were “SAZIATTO!!”, I know a little part of you is with me anywhere we are in the universe. My last experience with you…

My dear friend (Jen Stackhouse) (Jen Stackhouse)

I met Sarah and Danny soon after moving to Galiano, at a Thanksgiving gathering held in the valley at Thera. From that first night, I recognized them as kin — wild-hearted, luminous, and overflowing with love. This photo was taken at Danny’s birthday celebration a few years ago, a moment that still glows in my…

Magic moments (Shelley Lawson)

Sarah had a knack for turning the simplest outing into a memorable event. Whether it was a chance meeting at the market or this simple drive to a local farm stand, her laughter, wisdom, and bright spirit brought magic to the moment. I don’t recall what wisdom she is channeling here, but I know it…

Pure medicine – a Sarah hug (Shelley Lawson)

Anyone who ever had a hug from Sarah knows the medicine it contained. She made me feel safe, seen, and supported with every encounter. Thanks Jen, for sharing this moment you captured at our last sleepover at Upper Narnia.

At our wedding!

Sarah was a lively guest at our wedding. She danced and partied for hours! I was so glad she shared the night with us. I always enjoyed spending time with her; she was such a unique person.

Sarah Eating Cake (Marta)

Sarah bought me a beautiful birthday cake for my 40th birthday and we had a party at Cornwall and Vine inviting everyone. I’d mentioned to her in passing how ungrounded I’d felt lately. So, she and Sean hauled and lifted and grunted and pushed a 150 lb. granite rock up three stories of steps into…

“changes coming” (Chris)
Sarah and I were texting July 23. Her niece Kristen was visiting- they’d been hiking and eating peaches from her garden. I was visiting my family in Mendocino and She said she had some juicy Mendo gossip for me for when I got home. Then there was an odd additional text (still in July) that…

Sarah/Marta Stories – Nice (Marta McLaughlin)
We took a couple of days to travel to Nice. From Paris, it’s an overnight train and we booked ourselves into the cheap sleeping bunks – six to a room. All of the other folks in our compartment were elderly and the room was stiflingly warm with no moving air. With my nose about 10”…

Sarah, old friend, so many stories held within our ‘skins’ swath the universe now. So much beauty to wrap and console the planets. We know you for the star that you are. Never forgotten your heart and memory lies within us.

Music and art memories (Rob Middleton-Hope)

Memories of Sarah Music and Art: Sarah was a gifted musician, she could play saxophone, piano, harmonica and sing and likely more. For a time, when she would be in town, we had a regular get together in my music studio where she would join us with her sax, harmonicas and on the piano.…

Lots of love to you Sarah (Justine Kowal)

When I go don’t learn to live without me; just learn to live with my love in a different way. And if you need to see me, close your eyes or look in your shadow when the sun shines. I’m there. Excerpt by Donna Ashworth “When I Go”

Memories of Sarah
First Light-Sean and Sarah
While Georgina has a specific event of the first time she met Sarah, I feel that she and Sean just slid into my life in the fall of 1996 and everything shifted from that moment on.
Sean became a mentor and dear friend as did Sarah as we began the connection with them in our world of art, architecture and music. Then they laid the big one on us that they were building their homestead on Galiano. Well, we jumped at the chance to be a part of it.Our first visit to Narnia was just after drywall, there was a large, site built scaffold in the living room to access the ceiling. A dodgy bit of work to be up on but it was useful at the time.
The next few years we spent piecing together periods of time to help with the build when we could get away from the city. Sometimes weeks , sometimes days. There were a couple of years where the road in was blocked by giant boulders, so we had to walk in about 1km to get to the house, encumbered with all manner of materials, water, supplies , etc.
Their appreciation for my framing and finish carpentry skills and Georgy’s amazing plaster and faux finishing abilities kept us with many and varied projects to be involved with. The stairs, kitchen, bath house and grounds, windows and doors. All needing to be completed. Meanwhile, many days and nights of sharing meals and stories together. By the way, Georgina’s cooking and baking became legendary during those years!
I’ll never forget how tuned in we all were to each other and how much positivity and stressing

Memories of Sarah
Music and Art:Sarah was a gifted musician, she could play saxophone, piano, harmonica and sing and likely more. For a time, when she would be in town, we had a regular get together in my music studio where she would join us with her sax, harmonicas and on the piano. We usually improvised but often tried out playing hits from our diverse tastes, Joni Mitchell, Tom Waits, the list goes on. In all cases, she would stretch her boundaries with me and music as we encouraged each other to do so. She was great at the harmonica, unapologetic of her piano playing but always a bit shy with her sax. It was an old instrument and if she didn’t play it regularly, it seized up on her. She played it beautifully, hauntingly, as sax can be. A sense of holding the note and then letting it drift. The interplay between my percussion and her playing was always so great, so appreciated from both sides. Just sharing those moments of creation. We did a couple of sessions with our friend David Hatfield and his “Singing Soul” vocal improv workshops. A week of getting together and vocalizing. Another way of connecting through music.
She brought our now dear friends Mick and Mary into our lives through music 13 years ago, a chance meeting at her studio, one conversation led to another. Mick and I continue to collaborate on numerous projects and they are dear friends to us.With art, there was, from moment 1 a deep connection between Georgina and Sarah. They were sisters of the same tribe and collaborated on and shared so many ideas. With me it has evolved between art, music, building, woodworking and sculpture. In every setting she has supported my efforts with such deep interest and support. Genuine discourse on the what, whys and hows. She would look me in the eye and tell me how she felt, typically full of compliments and support and always with the question of “How great did it feel, or was it the intuitive or the planned part that got you started?”
I loved the sharing with her, by her. I assumed she would always be there to do so with, that she was the tether to the real in a world of fractured realities. She always brought her curiosity and truly interested perspective to all conversation, nothing was off the table. I came to rely upon her for that particular way she had of seeing to the true center of the situation and not holding back with her opinion or idea. The real loss for me is her presence. Spending hours days nights with her on Thera, in Vancouver. I was blessed with her gift of her time. I so wish I could give more of mine to her as I feel I owe her so much more. She was so dear to me, such a friend, collaborator, mentor, chum so much I will never forget and always cherish. Fair well dear One!
